:00 and the nfl will announce today if san francisco is in the running to host a super bowl. >> reporter: we are not just talking about any super bowl. san francisco wants to host super bowl 50, a huge anniversary for the nfl that would include more than a week of events and celebrations. this is how this would work out. all the festivities would happen in san francisco. the actual game at the new 49ers stadium would be 40 miles down the road in santa clara. it's expected to open in 2014 and a stadium has to exist for two seasons to host the super bowl. san francisco is hoping to bid ant 2016 and 2017 games. the only super bowl in the bay area was in 1985 at stanford. the mayor submitted the application back in august and this is what's next. today nfl will announce which cities are in the running. if san francisco is one of them, it will host a plan on may 7th of next year. two weeks later the city will make a presentation to the 32 nfl owners. just to give you an idea, hosting a super bowl is expensive, about $25 million. san francisco wants to be part of the 50th and electricity reand say

into that undercover officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:30 a.m. an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from a moving car. pd says the car had three suspects inside. the officer chased them to the 2500 block here of bryant street. that's when the three suspects jumped out of the car and ran away. the officers did catch up with one suspect and then police at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. now, when ee got here about 10 minutes after we arrived, they were able to take down the crime tape. we watched officers search that suspect or the suspects' vehicle and tow it away. we know now this is an ongoing investigation and hope to have more information throughout the morning. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> new this morning, police in oakland are trying to find three home invasion robbery suspects overnight on coral road. police say the suspects were armed. so far authorities are not saying what was stolen. >>> the giants beat the tigers last night 8-3. what a night in game one. a little luck including this rbi double good
'm michelle griego. time now 6:00. shots fired at an undercover police officer in san francisco's mission district. >> one suspect under arrest right now and another man is looking for two other suspects. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran has the latest. she joins us with the latest. >> reporter: actually i did mention it earlier. the mission district is where they are looking for the suspects. the good news is there are no injuries reported so far. you can take a look at the damage done to one officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:0 this morning when an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from the moving car. the police department says there were three suspects inside. three suspects jumped out of the car. the officer caught up with one suspect and then pd at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. as far as we know, those two suspects are still outstanding and they are currently looking for them at this point. the investigation is under way. we are hoping to get more information as the story develops later on this morning. live in the miss

news in san francisco. shots are fired at a police officer during a chase in the mission district. one suspect is now under arrest. two others are at large. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san francisco with an update. >> reporter: i'm at 23rd and bryant where officers just wrapped up their investigation in this area. we saw them tow away that suspect vehicle that was parked here where before the suspects ran away. we're told that they are still looking for two additional suspects. there is a possibility they could still be armed. now, sfpd says this incident started around 1:30 this morning. they say one of their officers were shot at multiple times from a moving car. it was an undercover officer. he called for help after that. that officer chased the car to the 2500 block here at bryant street. and three suspects jumped out of the car and tried to get away. after that the officer again was able to catch one suspect. again, there are two on the loose. we don't have a description at this point. we know it's an ongoing investigation. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> n

on swing states with less than two weeks to go before the election. >> panda power. san francisco's pablo sandoval makes world series history, pressing three home runs in a game one victory. >> this is the cbs morning news for thursday, october 25th, 2012. >>> good morning, everybody. good to be with you. i'm terrell brown. hurricane sandy is lashing islands in the caribbean this morning. the storm is threatening the east coast with tropical storm warnings and watches already up in florida. sandy made landfall overnight. it is now a category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. sandy is moving northeast at about 15 miles per hour. while forecasters don't really know where sandy will end up, they are already saying it could develop into a major weather event. as sandy pushes toward the united states, it is expected to take one of two tracks. it could swirl up the mid-atlantic state posing no serious danger but bringing strong winds and waves or merge with a cold front creating a monster storm that slams into the northeast by the beginning of next week. >> that storms
